New Vineyard Barn
Barn Door
The Barn Door is a visual centerpiece as one approaches the barn. White Oak handles with a sliding lock are flanked by carvings. The door is mounted on hand forged strap hinges and secured with square head bolts.
Each Door Handle is over three feet in length and carved lavishly on both sides with grape vines and related imagery to draw ones attention at every turn. A four foot piece of white oak functions as a sliding lock to keep the doors shut in when not in use.
In contrast to many sliding barn doors the client decided to opt for swinging doors. This required the creation of custom 4′ long leaf hinges which a local Blacksmith was more than happy to oblige us with.
The Timber Frame
Located on the overlook of a local Lake, The side porch of the Barn offers a stunning view of the vineyard. Exposed joinery such as the scarf joints below can be beautiful sights unto themselves.
The frame of the barn is has a double pitched roof line that utilizes King post trusses to clear span the center Bay. Four 40′ top plates are split into three sections resulting in the frame having 8 tabled scarf joints.
The Resulting Vaulted Barn Interior truly shows off the strength and vitality of the structure.
Siding
The siding was done by Hyland Timber Framing. Of especial note is the simplified egg and dart profile where boards and battens lap over one another at the second floor mark.
